Truth About Thinx

Time to get real...periods suck and you know it!
It might be my age or the just the sudden kick in the pants we have gotten lately but a movement of strong female power has been washing over the world. It took a complete idiot for this ball to get rolling but I am seeing a change all around me! With this shift from girl power to woman warriors we are being more open, accepting and free. I am learning more about myself now merely by learning about you. While some topics are a bit personal, one thing that I've learned is that the natural process our bodies go through is not something to hide or be ashamed of. With that being said, I wanted to share my experience and a company with a worldly goal.
________________________________________
After undergoing a uterine fibroid surgery last year and the super fun weight shifts and anxiety that came with it, my body hasn't been the same. Even with switching birth-control pills it seems that what used to work for me isn't working anymore. I have had surprise spotting off and on and lived in fear or ruining my favorite panties. I was going through boxes of tampons...on top of being wasteful and expensive it was annoying as hell. Pads weren't much better...bulky as can be!
Enter Thinx!
Despite a rocky start and some bad publicly, Thinx are still pushing forward to tackle the stigma of periods, inspired by their own period adventures and the fact that millions of girls around the globe miss school during their "time of the month". The proceeds from Thinx go toward their Global Girls Program to help educate girls all over the world.
So in the midst of getting a handle on my female hormones I thought that Thinx could save me. I was truly skeptical but so curious about these magical period saving panties. After looking through YouTube reviews and numerous blogs my conclusion was to give Thinx a try for my spotting, that seemed to be the best use for them. I chose the boyshorts to try around the house and they were surprisingly comfy. Very much like a swim suite bottom with less pantie-lines!
As far as my spotting, the nervousness was gone. If my body decided to surprise me again, it was okay and that felt great. I moved about free and whenever I needed to pee, no problem! No tampon BS!
Of course I couldn't wear my new panties 24/7 but they were easy to clean. Just rinse after use, cold wash and hang to dry! The material lends itself well to a quick wash and I did not find any difficulties, just make sure to not use any bleach or fabric softeners.

I would love to try their other products. Thinx really thought of everything, including active wear. I'm so curious to see how their Thinx thongs hold up during the stress of High Fitness ha ha!
Check below for the links and remember, periods are a fact of life for women. We must break free of this negative stigma and share. Maybe that will help others become more comfortable as well.

Sakara Love

Howdy!!
So I am in complete love with these Dark Chocolate Cardamom Cookies from Sakara! LOVE! I didn't even know I liked cardamom. Such a great treat...not too sweet, not too savory. Perfect! They are so yummy but a bit too pricey to order all the time :(
A week or two after my last cookie had been eaten I started craving the spice and nutty almond butter of the Sakara cookies. I had to have more, so I decided to try making my own. The main ingredients call for almond flower, almond butter, cardamom and honey. While these still have sugar in them, it was nice not adding in a stick of butter, sugar and a few eggs. Also, you add in chopped dark chocolate. I have never been a huge dark chocolate fan, it can be so bitter, but these cookies turned me around! Such a good combo!
For this mix you have to let it chill out in the fridge over night but that didn't stop me from eating some of the dough he he!
After rolling out little dough balls onto my cookie sheet and giving them a quick bake, they were ready! So delicious and just like the Sakara ones. They look a little different but it's probably how I molded each one...a little too smooth/round.
Tip: Definitely use a paddle mixer instead of a whisk. The dough became thicker with each ingredient and wasn't the easiest to mold. Plus I added in dark chocolate chips but will chop up the chocolate a bit more when I make them again. That's right, again, again and again ha ha!
Or I may add the Sakara ones to a Clean order as a special treat. See the link below for the Sakara Clean Boutique. Such great products! I would recommend the beauty and detox waters as well!

Smoky Seared Cod from Blue Apron

Hi There!
Here is another Blue Apron meal that we really enjoyed. I love that they are able to send fish and other items without them spoiling. Even so we made sure to cook this one, with the cod, first and it turned out to be a great choice!
When I hear the word cod I don't immediately get excited ha ha! It's a bland white fish but that works well with the other ingredients and spices. Especially the shallot and dates. Like most BA meals, this took about 30 mins overall and was pretty easy to make. The bulk of the work was cooking the cod and roasting the potatoes after slicing them.
The overall flavor is light which I really liked. Each piece was evenly paired and the potatoes were heaven. God I love potatoes! The cod does also have a distinct smokiness as Blue Apron mentions, to go along with the Spanish-style sauce of dates and butter. I would love to have this again!

High Fitness Love

As the first ten mins passed I could feel my body awaken...like my soul needed to sweat. Doing our second set of lunges I quickly surveyed the room. Good...I wasn't the only one having balance issues ha ha! The music started to pick up again and we shifted to our next set of moves. Each girl now with beads of determination collecting on their skin.
This was...and is...High Fitness.
High Fitness was originally started by these lovely ladies, Emily Nelson and Amber Zenith and they are quickly making their presence knownCheck out this news report on them HERE
I should have written about HF sooner, it's been maybe my 10th class and while it has been a bit brutal, it's fun! I don't think I have ever jumped so much in my life LOL! Thanks to Ashley, studio owner, The Barre Studio in Capitola was lucky to pick this new technique up and we have all gotten hooked. HF involves choreographed moves but is about bringing in cardio and toning sets. Working to shape certain muscle groups. I think it's going to be more than a craze, it really does yield results. There is one set where we jump forward punching the air and it always makes me think that Ashley is building a small army of punching squat jumping warriors. We will take over!
High completely helps to motivate me even on my most sluggish days. I always dread the beginning and then as our last set starts to wind down I am so proud of myself.
I would definitely recommend trying HF. I know you can make it through the first 10 mins and you'll be on your way toward glory! Here's a pic from the Studios first class!

Dorne Breakfast

Good Morning!

The Game of Thrones finale is almost here! Yikes! I feel like it just started....so I wanted to celebrate this wondrous show with a nod to Dorne in all its sun-drenched glory.
So beautiful!

From the Game of Thrones Cookbook here is breakfast from Dorne!
To start I chopped up the peppers and minced half to make about three tablespoons. Same with the onions. *I was asked to not saute too many peppers/onions
Then put 4 to 5 tbls of olive oil in a pan on med. heat.

Cook chopped peppers and onions until soft. Add 1 ice cube and cover. This helps steam the veggies. After about 5 mins set veggies aside (in another container) but keep warm.
Next saute the minced peppers and onions in the pan for about 1 min. Add in the 6 eggs, do not stir.
Sprinkle the cheese over eggs while they cook then sprinkle salt and pepper. *I used some salt from our Try The World box! Next scramble the eggs until whites are no longer runny. Once this happens, remove from heat and serve. Place the chopped veggies on the side.
Craig really liked this dish and not only was this Dorne breakfast yummy but it was also colorful! he he
It was fun to put an old world twist on a familiar breakfast.
Now we wait for GOT and make some Lemonsweet he he! Thanks for reading!

Aqua de Vida

I have found the key to everlasting life and it is Barre.
Let me explain. Over the years... after my metabolism stopped at 25 :( I have been trying to get into better shape. Two things about me: I do not like working out and I rarely do anything for more than a few weeks. So I knew this wouldn't be an easy task. It was a little expensive, but they had a first-timer discount...so with a few clicks I signed up. With the added push that I had put money towards this, I decided to try out my first class that Saturday morning.

About Barre: Barre is a new workout fad with classes popping up all over Cali and girls(and a few select guys)stocking up on non-slip socks. Classes incorporate elements of ballet barre, yoga, strength training and Pilates. Plus everything is done to music, while they inspire us to push longer and leaner! Instructors also take notice of each girls movements, correcting form which is super helpful...especially for someone as uncoordinated as myself!

As the class started I immediately felt out of shape but as it went on I learned more and more. It felt empowering. Each section of training pushes you to hold difficult poses and make micro movements. This made my legs burn...but just as I felt that I couldn't hold on for one more second, we would move on to another section. Wheeew!
We finished the class with long stretches and a few easy yoga moves. With the last "take a deep breath/letting the air out," a smile crept across my face. I liked Barre. It was difficult and my legs shook but I felt a tad like a ballerina, and it was worth it.
The class I joined is located in Capitola and pretty close to my place...probably a BIG motivating factor. Both their studio and website are simple yet elegant. They are also celebrating their 3 month anniversary!Check it out: http://www.thebarrecapitola.com/
Now I have a special thing that I do, for myself. Today will be my 10th class. I still can't believe it LOL. Hopefully I keep this up and gain the sculpted lean body I want.

Ginger-Raspberry Muffins

Howdy!

Okay I made a real delicious treat this time. Out of the Maenad Feast section by Maryann, there is a great recipe for Ginger-Raspberry Muffins.

First start off by setting the oven to 400 and line 12 muffin tins with papers.

I apologize the next video featuring me pouring each mixture (exciting stuff he he!) and cutting up the raspberries and candied ginger was lost. Boo!

For this part you will be making two bowls then mixing them together.

First bowl:  flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
Second bowl: buttermilk, vegetable oil, vanilla and egg.
After, you want to add in the fresh raspberries and candied ginger. I am not a huge fan of ginger but chopped up and baked the flavor is subtle. Also adding in fresh raspberries really makes this muffin pop!

They were such a nice treat to have, and I say 'have' because I believe Craig has finished them off! Fluffy, warm and each flavor can be tasted without being over powering.
I would definitely recommend! Nom nom nom!

Thanks! -Bunny
